The Author You Like Most

 

Among the Bengali writers, Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay moves me the most. He is my favourite author. I have gone through some of his works. He is an excellent novelist. His 'Ramer Sumati', 'Bindur Chhele', 'Palli Samaj', 'Srikanta', 'Debdas', etc. deal with the delicate nuances of the human heart at work under different situations. He is every inch a realist. He presents life as it is. Most of his novels have a rural setup of contemporary Bengal. We can easily identify ourselves with his characters. Shartchandra’s popularity chiefly rests on his art of storytelling. Here he is second to none. Moreover, his love, respect, and sympathy for women strike me the most. In fact, he felt for the suffering women, the downtrodden, and the underdogs of society. His novels urge me to fight against injustice, exploitation, and superstitions still prevailing in our society. And all this explains why I admire and adore Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay deeply.

বাঙালি লেখকদের মধ্যে শরৎচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায় আমাকে সবচেয়ে বেশি হৃদয়স্পর্শ করেন। তিনি আমার প্রিয় লেখক। আমি তাঁর কয়েকটি রচনা পড়েছি। তিনি একজন চমৎকার উপন্যাসিক ছিলেন। তাঁর 'রামের সুমতি', 'বিন্দুর ছেলে', 'পল্লী সমাজ', 'শ্রীকান্ত', 'দেবদাস' ইত্যাদি বিভিন্ন পরিস্থিতিতে মানুষের হৃদয়ের সূক্ষ্ম সামান্য পার্থক্য গুলি কিভাবে কাজ করে সেগুলি নিয়ে কাজ করে। তিনি প্রতি ইঞ্চিতে ছিলেন একজন বাস্তববাদী। তিনি জীবনকে ঠিক জীবন যেমনটা তেমনটা করেই উপস্থাপন করেছেন। তাঁর বেশিরভাগ উপন্যাসের মধ্যেই সমসাময়িক বাংলার গ্রামীণ গঠন বিন্যাস রয়েছে। আমরা সহজেই তাঁর চরিত্রগুলির মধ্যে আমাদের নিজেদের চিহ্নিত করতে পারি। শারৎচন্দ্রের জনপ্রিয়তা মূলত তাঁর গল্প বলার পটুতার উপর নির্ভর করে। এখানে তিনি কারও থেকেই পিছিয়ে নেই। তদুপরি, মহিলাদের প্রতি তাঁর ভালবাসা, শ্রদ্ধা এবং সহানুভূতি আমাকে সবচেয়ে বেশি বিমুগ্ধ করে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, তিনি সমাজে কষ্টের মধ্যে থাকা নারীরা, নিপীড়িত এবং সমাজের সুবিধাবঞ্চিতদের জন্য ব্যথা অনুভব করেছিলেন। তাঁর উপন্যাসগুলি আমাকে আমাদের সমাজে এখনও বিরাজমান অন্যায়, শোষণ এবং কুসংস্কারের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করার আহ্বান জানায়। এবং এই সমস্ত দিক গুলিই ব্যাখ্যা করে যে আমি কেন শরৎচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায়কে গভীরভাবে প্রশংসা করি এবং পছন্দ করি।
