The Person You Admire Most

 

The man whom I admired most is not a historical figure. He lives close to our house. He is Sushil Bera, a retired military officer. He is the president of our club. The Kargil war had made him crippled. But disability can not decimate his spirit. His zest for life remains unflagging. He is always engaged in humanitarian works. It is he who inspired the youth of our neighbourhood to do something positive for the ailing humanity. Under his able guidance, we have successfully launched some social drives. We have rendered community service like blood donation, literacy, clean surroundings, financial assistance to the poor students of our people. Now we have an integrated community for which all credit should go to Sushil Bera. I adore him most as he urges us to love life and keep firm faith in humanity.

আমি যার খুব বেশি প্রশংসা করি তিনি কোন ঐতিহাসিক ব্যক্তিত্ব নয়। তিনি আমাদের বাড়ির কাছেই থাকেন। তিনি হলেন সুশীল বেরা, একজন অবসরপ্রাপ্ত সামরিক কর্মকর্তা। তিনিই হলেন আমাদের ক্লাবের সভাপতি। কারগিল যুদ্ধ তাকে পঙ্গু করে দিয়েছে। কিন্তু অক্ষমতা তার চেতনা ধ্বংস করতে পারে নি। জীবনের প্রতি আছে তার অফুরন্ত উৎসাহ। তিনি সর্বদা মানবিক কাজে লিপ্ত থাকেন। তিনিই আমাদের প্রতিবেশী যুবকদের অসুস্থ মানবতার জন্য কিছু ইতিবাচক কাজ করতে উদ্বুদ্ধ করেন। তাঁর সক্রিয় পথপ্রদর্শন, আমরা সামাজিক অভিযান সফলভাবে চালু করেছি। আমরা রক্তদান, সাক্ষরতা, চারপাশ পরিষ্কার পরিচ্ছন্নতা, আমাদের দরিদ্র শিক্ষার্থীদের আর্থিক সহায়তার মতো কয়েকটি নাগরিক সেবা প্রদান করেছি। এখন আমাদের একটি সংহত সম্প্রদায় রয়েছে যার জন্য সমস্ত কৃতিত্ব সুশীল বেরা এর প্রতি যাওয়া উচিত। তিনি জীবনকে ভালোবাসতে এবং মানবতার প্রতি দৃঢ় বিশ্বাস রাখার আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন বলে আমি তাকে সবচেয়ে বেশি পছন্দ করি।
