About the Poet and Poem ::

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) was an American writer from nineteenth century well known for lyric poem. A few of his famous work are Voices of the Night, Ballads and other poems, The Songs of Hiawatha.

The poem is written in rhyming couplets, continuing for nine lines. Longfellow traces the journey of the wind as it passes over land and ocean, ushering in fresh lively activities with daybreak.

হেনরি ওয়েডসওয়ার্থ লংফেলো (১৮০৭-১৮৮২) ঊনবিংশ শতাব্দীর এক আমেরিকান লেখক ছিলেন যিনি গীতি কবিতার জন্য সুপরিচিত। তাঁর কয়েকটি বিখ্যাত রচনা হ'ল Voices of the Night, Ballads and other poems, The Songs of Hiawatha ।

SUMMARY (সারসংক্ষেপ) ::

Longfellow in his poem sounds the clarion call of the day. He describes the sights and sounds hailing the rousing of life at daybreak. The poet picks on the wind as the agent of herald, announcing the dawn. The wind cheers the mariners, stimulates the forest, enlivens the birds, rouses the chanticleer, animates the cornfields and invigorates the belfry tower to ring out loud. The wind does not want to disturb the repose of those sleeping in the graveyard, for it is not time for them to wake up yet.

লংফেলো তাঁর কবিতায় দিনের শিঙ্গা শোনাচ্ছেন। তিনি দৃশ্যগুলির ও শব্দগুলির বর্ণনা করেছেন যেগুলি দিনটির শুরুর সময় জীবনের উচ্ছ্বাসকে অভ্যর্থনা করছে। ভোরের ঘোষণার কথা বলে কবি হেরাল্ডের প্রতিনিধি হিসাবে বাতাসের উপরে উঠেছেন। বাতাসটি নাবিকদের উৎসাহিত করে, অরণ্যকে উদ্দীপিত করে, পাখিগুলিকে প্রাণচঞ্চল করে তোলে, মোরগ কে ঘুম ভাঙায়, শস্যক্ষেত্রকে প্রাণবন্ত করে তোলে এবং বেলফ্রি টাওয়ারকে শক্তি প্রদান করে জোরে বেজে উঠার জন্য। কবরস্থানে ঘুমিয়ে থাকা ব্যক্তিদের বিশ্রামে বাতাস বিরক্ত করতে চায় না, কারণ তাদের জেগে ওঠার সময় এখনও আসে নি।

THE TEXT ::

A wind came up out of the sea,

সমুদ্র থেকে একটি বাতাস উঠে এসেছিল,

And said, O mists, make room for me.

এবং বলল, হে কুয়াশা, আমার জন্য জায়গা করে দাও।

It hailed the ships, and cried, Sail on,

* landward : in the direction of land (জমির দিকে)

* o'er : short form of over (poetical use) ‘over’ -এর সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ (কাব্যিক ব্যবহার)

* chanticleer : rooster (মোরগ)

* belfry tower : The tower that contains the church bell (টাওয়ারটি যেটিতে চার্চের ঘণ্টা রয়েছে)
