William Wordsworth

The poet:

William Wordsworth [1770-1850] was one of the greatest poets of nature. He was a major poet of the Romantic period. His greatest poems are The Prelude, The Daffodils, Tintern Abbey, London 1802, Ode to Duty, Upon Westminster Abbey etc. He spent his life in the Lake District of England. The present text is an edited version of his poem We are seven.

উইলিয়াম ওয়ার্ডসওয়ার্থ [১৭৭০-১৮৫০] প্রকৃতির অন্যতম সেরা কবি ছিলেন। তিনি ছিলেন রোমান্টিক সময়ের প্রধান কবি। তাঁর সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ কবিতা হ'ল দ্য প্রিলিউড, দ্যা ড্যাফোডিলস, টিন্টার্ন অ্যাবি, লন্ডন ১৮০২, ওড টু ডিউটি, ওয়েস্টমিনস্টার অ্যাবে প্রমুখ। তিনি তাঁর জীবনটি ইংল্যান্ডের লেক জেলায় কাটিয়েছেন। বর্তমান পাঠ্যটি তাঁর সাতটি কবিতার সম্পাদিত সংস্করণ।

A simple child,

একটি সাধারণ শিশু,

 

That lightly draws its breath,

And feels its life in every limb,

I met a little cottage girl:

She was eight years old, she said

How many may you be?"

তোমরা কয়জন হতে পার?"

 

“How many? Seven in all,” she said,

"কতজন? সাতজন, "সে বলল,

 

And wondering looked at me.

আর অবাক হয়ে আমার দিকে তাকাল।

And where are they? I pray you tell.”

এবং ওরা কোথায়? আমি প্রার্থনা করছি তুমি বল।"

 

She answered, “Seven are we

সে বলল, “আমরা সাতজন

And two of us at Conway dwell

এবং কনওয়েতে আমদের দুজন বাস করি

 

And two are gone to sea.

Two of us in the churchyard lie,

My sister and my brother;

Dwell near them with my mother.”

“You say that two at Conway dwell,

If two are in the churchyard laid,

দু'জন যদি গির্জার উঠোনে পড়ে থাকে,

Then ye are only five.”

তবে তোমরা তো পাঁচ জন”।

“Their graves are green, they may be seen,”

"তাদের কবর সবুজ, তারা দেখা যেতে পারে,"

The little maid replied,

ছোট দাসী জবাব দিল,

 

“Twelve steps or more from my mother's door

“আমার মায়ের দরজা থেকে বারো ধাপ বা আরও বেশি

And they are side by side.

এবং তারা পাশাপাশি রয়েছে।

“How many are you then," said I,

"তাহলে তোমরা কতজন," আমি বলেছিলাম,

 

If they two are in heaven?"

তারা দুজন যদি স্বর্গে থাকে?"

 

Quick was the little maid's reply,

দ্রুত ছিল মেয়েটির উত্তর,

“O master! We are seven.”

“হে মাস্টার! আমরা সাত জন।

 

“But they are dead; those two are dead!

“তবে তারা মারা গেছে; এই দুজন মারা গেছে!

Their spirits are in heaven!”

তাদের আত্মা স্বর্গে আছে!”

 

'Twas throwing words away; for still

“সংকোচ ছুঁড়ে ফেলছে; তখনকার মত

The little maid would have her will,

ছোট মেয়েটির হয়তো তার ইচ্ছা ছিল,

And say, “Nay, we are seven!”

এবং বলে, "না, আমরা সাতজন!"
