Afforestation
Trees are part and parcel of life. All life directly or indirectly owes its existence to them. They release life-giving oxygen into the air and absorb poisonous carbon-di-oxide. We enjoy their fruits and flowers. They offer us cool shade and refreshing rain. They supply life-saving medicines. They prevent land erosion and guard us against pollution. Thus trees keep up the ecological balance. But it is a pity that trees are felled indiscriminately every day. Truly we encroach upon the plant kingdom. So, pollution is on the rise. It destroys the eco-balance. Global warming and greenhouse are the net outcomes of deforestation. Obviously, large-scale afforestation is the need of the hour. It means prevention and plantation of trees. All should come forward to make the plantation a real success.

গাছ জীবনের অবিচ্ছেদ্য অংশ। সমস্ত জীবন প্রত্যক্ষ বা পরোক্ষভাবে তাদের অস্তিত্বের কাছে ঋণী। তারা বাতাসে জীবনদাতা অক্সিজেন ছেড়ে দেয় এবং বিষাক্ত কার্বন-ডাই-অক্সাইড শোষণ করে। আমরা তাদের ফল এবং ফুল উপভোগ করি। তারা আমাদের শীতল ছায়া এবং সঞ্জীবনী বৃষ্টি প্রদান করে। তারা জীবন রক্ষাকারী ওষুধ সরবরাহ করে। তারা ভূমি ক্ষয় রোধ করে এবং দূষণের বিরুদ্ধে আমাদের রক্ষা করে। এভাবে গাছ পরিবেশগত ভারসাম্য বজায় রাখে। কিন্তু পরিতাপের বিষয় এই যে প্রতিদিন নির্বিচারে গাছ কাটা হচ্ছে। সত্যিই আমরা উদ্ভিদ রাজ্যের উপর বলপূর্বক দখল করে চলেছি। তাই দূষণ বাড়ছে। এতে পরিবেশের ভারসাম্য নষ্ট হয়। গ্লোবাল ওয়ার্মিং এবং গ্রিনহাউস বন উজাড়ের সুবিন্যস্ত ফলাফল। স্পষ্টতই, বড় আকারের বনসৃজন এই সময়ের প্রয়োজন। এর অর্থ হল প্রতিরোধ এবং গাছ লাগানো। বৃক্ষরোপণকে সফল করতে সকলকে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে।
